The Plymouth Admirals continue their BAFL campaign this Sunday with their second fixture of the campaign, a trip to the capital to face the newly formed London Cobras. The Cobras are a product of the highly successful London Warriors youth team and will be looking to build on an impressive win in their first ever league match against Colchester last weekend.

“The (Colchester) Gladiators are a very decent team”, explained Head Coach Steve Perry, “so for the Cobras to travel there and win 34-0 shows just how good their preparations have been. Early indications are that they have a particularly stingy defense, with some onlookers predicting they won’t concede any points all season. Overall the standard of most new teams entering the league in recent years has risen substantially. Nobody in our camp is expecting an easy day’s work against a ‘new team’. The whole squad is well aware that we will need to be at our best for Sunday’s encounter against a side looking to impress in their first ever home game.”

Following the Admirals opening day loss away to Andover, Perry highlighted the need for changes in the 4 weeks since then. “We’ve certainly given ourselves more options in all areas of the field. Players have been given knowledge that enables them to play in several positions, on offense and defense if needed, and that really opens things up for us. The addition of rookie Ali Reade and Michael Bearman from the Plymouth University team has also strengthened our defensive backfield significantly.”

Ahead of the first Admirals home game on June 1st, General Manager Sam Holder-Mark repeated the call for more non-players to join in the action. “Non-players are the heartbeat of the club in many ways, and just as important as the players. There are many ways to get involved, it costs nothing, and you often get a better view than the coaches do! Sandy Wells is a great example of somebody who has become a non-player in recent weeks. He had no previous experience, but his help at training is proving invaluable. He’s now well established as one of our club mates and seems to be getting a lot of enjoyment from his role.”

Potential players and non-players can find out more on the Admirals website www.plymouthadmirals.co.uk or by emailing plymouthadmirals@hotmail.co.uk or by calling 07780 717752.
